What to Expect During a Lactation Visit?

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

First, I will have you complete an intake form and give me consent to help you and your baby. Next, I will ask you questions about your health, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and baby’s health. Then we’ll weigh baby. Next, I will observe a feeding and assess how the baby is feeding at the breast. I will watch you latch and position the baby to see if a slight adjustment might help the baby get more milk or a less painful latch. If you have sore nipples or your breasts are engorged or have other concerns, I can help you figure out how to improve the situation. If you are pumping, I can help you set up the pump and give you instructions on using the pump and storing breast milk. I can also weigh your baby before and after the baby breastfeeds; to get a better picture of how much milk the baby received the breast. I can also share tips about breastfeeding to improve how things are going.

I will send your medical provider and baby’s provider a report to tell them what we discussed during the visit.

Visits typically last 60- 90 minutes.

You can make an appointment by calling me.
